Lewat sekuel terakhirnya, mahluk tambun berwarna hijau ini kembali menghadirkan aksi kocaknya.

Dalam 'Shrek Forever After', Shrek (Mike Myers) yang hidup bahagia bersama istri dan anak-anaknya, dilanda kejenuhan. Rutinitas sebagai seorang suami dan ayah tiga anak membuatnya bosan. Makhluk Ogre dari negeri Far Far Away ini rindu masa lalunya, di kala penduduk desa lari ketakutan melihatnya, atau saat-saat ia bisa berendam di kubangan lumpur dengan bebas.

Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn) yang dendam pada Shrek, akhirnya memanfaatkan peluang itu. Ia merayu Shrek untuk menandatangani sebuah perjanjian demi mengembalikan hidupnya seperti masa lalu.

Tiba-tiba, Shrek terlempar ke dunia paralel. Awalnya ia senang sekali, karena ia bisa menikmati kehidupan sebagai Ogre yang sesungguhnya. Tapi, lama kelamaan ia menyadari bahwa ada hal aneh yang menimpa kerajaan Far Far Away.

Di dunianya yang sekarang, kaum Ogre diburu habis-habisan. Rumpelstitskin menjadi raja Far Far Away. Teman-temannya tidak merasa pernah berteman dengan Shrek. Yang terburuk, Fiona (Cameron Diaz), istri yang telah ia selamatkan dari kutukan, menghilang!

Bahkan putri Fiona berubah menjadi pemimpin kaum Ogre dari bawah tanah. Fiona juga tidak mengenali Shrek sama sekali.

Gara-gara perjanjian ini, negeri Far Far Away ikut kacau balau. Shrek hanya bisa menghapus kekacauan itu, sekaligus mengembalikan keadaan seperti sedia kala bila ia dicium oleh cinta sejatinya, yakni Fiona.

Film animasi 'Shrek Forever After' adalah seri terakhir dari tiga film sebelumnya yang dirilis pada 2001, 2004 dan 2007. Film besutan Mike Mitchell ini memang mampu mengundang tawa penonton. Adegan konyol dan tingkah jahil Shrek, Fiona, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) dan Puss in Boots memang tidak ada matinya!

Lihat saja tingkah lucu Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) saat meminta tolong Donkey untuk menjilati tubuh gendutnya. Lalu, saat mata si Puss yang membesar saat meminta belas kasih dijamin akan membuat penonton terpingkal-pingkal.

Didukung dengan teknologi 3D, Shrek The Final Chapter menampilkan visualisasi yang kian mantap. Belum lagi sederet nama-nama artis kawakan yang tak asing lagi di dunia perfilman Hollywood ikut mengisi suara dalam film ini. Sebut saja Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, Antonio Banderas dan Eddie Murphy.
